ALLEN ART IDEAS FOR week of Mar. 23rd!
So, as most of you know, Ms. Allen just moved to a new home closer to OP!! I have a great new studio space and I am working HARD to get it set up so I can make some video lessons ASAP!!!
Until then, I am learning about new online platforms and preparing for more digital learning but want to make sure my artists have some Allen ideas for making their own art with stuff from home!!! (please make sure you get aunt permission before using supplies!)
***Do the adults in your house drink coffee!? If so, you can use coffee beans (even from a K-cup) as a cool kind of watercolor paint!
Step 1: pour ground up beans into a bowl, add a little water and mush the beans around until you get a brown paste (mmmm! lol)
Step 2: with a paintbrush (or your finger) dip into the bowl and brush across any kind of paper!
**Another fun thing to do with coffee bean water is to make pages of a story or journal look old and antique by letting them soak in the water overnight! Make sure to use paper that is a little thicker than notebook paper if you are going to do this!**
***Do you have tin foil around? Tin foil is a GREAT way to make sculptures and a lot of artists use it to make what is called an armature underneath their clay or paper mache sculptures. You can shape a person or animal with it and then use masking tape (or any kind of tape) to attach pieces together. If you have enough masking tape, it's fun to tape the WHOLE sculpture and then you can paint it! (make sure to use a drop cloth or newspaper underneath your painting area!)
PLEASE send me pictures of your creations! I'd love to share them on here too!!!

ALLEN ART IDEAS for week of April 6th!
I'm thinking about cartoons this week!! Making cartoons is a great way to practice both writing and drawing! Here are some ideas, activities and resources for you! And keep the pictures coming, parents! I'd love to post to the site!
Activity choice 1:
**Make your own finger print comic strip!
-Start by drawing a few rows of boxes on your paper
-Then, with parent permission, dip your fingers in any kind of wet medium (paint if you have it, but perhaps tea, coffee or another substance if not)
-Make various groups of finger prints in the boxes (some high, some low, some alone, some in groups)
-After they dry, add little arms and legs (and hats, shoes, etc)
-Decide what they are saying and add words inside little speech bubbles!
-Alternately, you could write a little story first and then make your comic strip prints match the story!!
Activity choice 2:
**Learn about cartoons and then make your own cartoon character!
Do you love cartoons like I do? Pixar movies are so awesome!!!
Here are some cool links!
*Behind the scenes at Pixar! (10 min):

*Cool cartoon how-to:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=61qUZgdH-aI&frags=pl%2Cwn
*Show your character's personality with its outfit, expression and pose!
Activity choice 3:
*Make a caricature of yourself! Have you ever had a street artist draw you? Was it a silly picture with your head drawn very large!? That's called a caricature!
Here are some helpful links on cartooning that you could use to help you draw your own!:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=61qUZgdH-aI&frags=pl%2Cwn

Activity choice 4:
GOOGLE DRAWING!!
I didn't even know this existed until I started researching online resources! Check out this video and I'll be learning about this stuff alongside you! I'll post some of my drawings later in the week!

ALLEN ART end of year UPDATES!
IMPORTANT INFO! FOR ALL OP FAMILIES!!
Hi from Ms. Allen to all OP families and staff!
Boy do I miss all of you so much!!
Please know that the over 750 art projects (that were in progress, on display or in student portfolios) are neatly organized and waiting for my students to collect safely in the fall!!
5th grade “Art by Me” work has been scanned and original work will be returned by Ms. Allen to each family (more to come about that on Tuesday to 5th grade families)
All other “Art by Me” work will be available for orders in the Fall! (Many grade levels still had many students trying to finish in March and there were additional fees for shop-to-home, etc. so we decided to wait until Fall for these orders)
Congrats to our 4th grade students that won Honorable Mention awards in the NC Farm to School Calendar Contest!!!
To: Annalina, Valeria, Mia R., Catherine C. & Aubrey:
I am SO proud of you!!!! LOVE MS. ALLEN
